The top draws in England – including the Tower of London London To Stonehenge – which needs no introduction for travelers from all corners… yet there are numerous spots on this verdant island that don’t appear on typical sightseeing lists but deserve attention, according to a pair of visitors from the United States.
The YouTube personalities Jeremy and Cara are so enthusiastic about exploring less renowned areas of Britain that they have put together a list of the top ten locations often overlooked by tourists. They also show a special fondness for a city that many tend to dismiss.
The duo, who share content on their YouTube account, The Magic Geekdom I have dedicated almost eight months—over four visits—to exploring various parts of the UK, with a special emphasis on England.
In the 30-minute video, the pair ranks 'the most awesome cities that aren’t getting enough recognition,' along with charming seaside towns and picturesque villages frequently overshadowed by their more famous counterparts.
One of the most unexpected additions might be Coventry; despite not attracting many tourists, this West Midlands city captured the affection of The Magic Geekdom, earning fifth place on their list as they noted it 'totally exceeded our expectations.'
They relished the tale of Lady Godiva, complete with the daily clock tower performance featuring the town’s own Peeping Tom at the historic Market Hall site, and then settled into a drink at the 15th-century establishment, The Old Windmill, located on Spon Street.
They were equally fond of the city's transportation museum, praising its display of classic automobiles and collectibles as "easily one of the finest museums we have visited across the entire United Kingdom."
The northeast city of Durham ranks tenth, impressing Magic Geekdom with its stunning 11th-century cathedral — a location featured in various scenes. Harry Potter The franchise was filmed among its 'twisting medieval lanes and inviting ambiance.'
Another cathedral city considered a 'secret treasure' was Wells, where the duo was captivated by the central church of Somerset.
Constructed from 1175 to 1490, this cathedral stands as the first English church to adopt the Gothic architectural style and is renowned for housing one of the nation's most extensive assortments of historical stained glass.
The Wells CathedralClock, which dates back to 1390, is regarded as the second-oldest functional clock mechanism in Great Britain.
The pair lodged at the Swan hotel and looked for places that appeared in the movie "Hot Fuzz" from 2007, featuring Simon Pegg and Nick Frost — stating they are big admirers of their work.
The couple's first conventional Sunday dinner in the UK took place at a roast hosted by The Crown at Wells pub.
In Robin Hood's Bay, they were treated to more traditional British cuisine, with a dinner of fish and chips waiting for them.
They depicted the Yorkshire coastal town as 'spilling down towards the sea,' mentioning 'steep, winding pathways' - noting that 'each turn uncovers yet another stunning vista.'
It was another coastal town that claimed the top position on The Magic Geekdom's list.
Healthier than the Netflix movie with the same title, Saltburn – formally known as Saltburn-by-the-Sea in North Yorkshire – was deemed the top hidden gem destination by the duo.
They adored the 19th-century iron pier, quaint local stores, and the absence of large crowds, along with the classic arcades, commenting, "This location has a delightful unassuming charm."
The beach here is beautiful, and this may astonish you, but it's actually a highly favored location for surfers.
The heartfelt appreciation for the coastal town brought one North Yorkshire local to tears and, quite frankly, overwhelmed with emotion.
'Saltburn-by-the-Sea is just 7 miles from my doorstep. It means so much that you acknowledged its charm and atmosphere—I was truly moved when you ranked it first.'
Jeremy and Cara describe themselves as self-proclaimed anglophiles who are excited to explore more of the UK on upcoming journeys. They share in their bio, "While we’re unsure when our next adventure will take place (fingers crossed it’s soon), we’ll keep producing content—trying out more British cuisine, recalling past escapades, and expressing our affection for Old Blighty."
