Captain Tom's Family Faces Another Major Financial Setback

The disgraced family of Captain Tom has suffered yet another significant setback - and this time it pertains to finances.

The Second World War A veteran managed to raise almost £39 million for charity during the pandemic by completing 100 laps around his garden prior to turning 100 in April 2020.

However, his daughter Hannah Ingram-Moore, aged 53, along with her spouse Colin, who is 66 years old, had previously faced scrutiny when a regulatory body criticized them for stashing over £1 million in his name through connections with the Captain Tom Foundation, established in 2020 .

The Charity Commission reported that their investigation into the foundation revealed 'multiple lapses in governance and integrity' committed by the pair.

Last year, they attempted to sell the seven-bedroom property in Marston Moretaine, Bedfordshire, leveraging his reputation for a substantial price of £2.25 million.

However, it faced challenges in the marketplace and they were forced to reduce the price by £250,000, subsequently moving it to a more private and low-profile listing to maintain its privacy away from public view.

Just three months later, they have had to cut an additional £50,000 in yet another frantic effort to make the sale happen.

A source stated: "This is a setback for the family who have been attempting to sell the property for several months."

When initially listed online, the property showcased a photograph of the mansion’s hallway featuring a statue of Captain Tom performing one of his daily garden walks to raise funds for NHS charities, prominently displayed as a highlight.

The home's history was promoted in a brochure, stating that the 'property is owned by the family of Captain Sir Tom Moore who spent his final years there raising money for the NHS during the Covid pandemic'.

It continued: 'A particularly special memory of our time here is of my father walking 100 laps of the garden to amass an unprecedented amount of nearly £40 million for NHS charities throughout the pandemic .'

However, they removed the property from the market due to criticism over their management of the charity established in his name.

In January, the property was relisted with a price starting above £2 million, without any reference to Captain Tom to associate with the listing.

However, this week it has been relisted at £1.95 million.

The advertisement merely says: "The owners have possessed the property for 18 years and have implemented an extensive program of enhancement and refurbishment."

This occurred following the controversy surrounding the couple who had to tear down a spa pool structure at their residence in February, as they had utilized the foundation’s name in the planning submission.

The council indicated that it mostly agreed with the project based on the understanding that it would serve charitable causes. However, the couple admitted they had made a mistake and attributed this to their hectic schedules.

In August 2023, Mrs. Ingram Moore was subjected to an investigation concerning payments channeled via her family firm for events connected to her deceased father's foundation.

In 2021 and 2022, she allegedly served as the interim CEO of the Captain Tom Foundation, where she participated in and adjudicated award shows. However, compensation for these events was directed to her firm, Maytrix Group.

The BBC reports that she received substantial funds from Maytrix for participating in the Virgin Media O2 Captain Tom Foundation Connector Awards, even though promotional clips indicated her representation of the charity.

The house being sold by the family includes four bathrooms, four reception areas, and sits on 3.5 acres of land featuring an independent Coach House.
